UPDATE: BC man arrested after fatal stabbing now charged for separate stabbing 2 days earlier

(UPDATE: April 30 @ 4:40 pm) - Homicide investigators say a man from Surrey has been charged with aggravated assault in relation to one of two stabbings in White Rock.

A statement from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says 27−year−old Dimitri Nelson Hyacinth has been charged over the alleged assault of another 28−year−old man along the White Rock pier and promenade on April 21.

It’s the same area where 26−year−old Kulwinder Singh Sohi was fatally stabbed two days later, though the RCMP did not provide an update on any further charges.

Police had announced Monday that Hyacinth had been arrested in relation to the fatal stabbing.

Sgt. Timothy Pierotti with IHIT says in the latest statement that the case is "dynamic" and the investigation into Sohi’s death remains active.

Investigators are asking anyone who was at the White Rock promenade, east of the pier, or driving by the area last Tuesday evening to call them with any information.

(Original story: April 30 @ 5 am) - British Columbia homicide investigators say they have arrested a 28−year−old man in relation to a deadly stabbing near the White Rock pier last week.

A statement from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says the man from Surrey was arrested Monday over the killing of 26−year−old Kulwinder Singh Sohi.

Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT said the investigation remains "very active," but the update about the arrest was made in recognition of the "public’s concern for safety."

Last week police said witnesses told them Sohi was seen in a physical altercation with a suspect before giving chase on the White Rock Promenade.

Police said Sohi was attended to by emergency responders after the attack but died at the scene.

The stabbing was the second near White Rock’s pier in about 48 hours, and the police description of the suspects in the two cases closely matched.

In the second case a man was injured but survived.

IHIT is asking for witnesses or anyone who was near White Rock Promenade, east of the pier, on April 23 between 8 pm and 10 pm to contact investigators.

Anyone driving on Marine Drive with a dash camera at that time is also being asked to come forward.

IHIT’s statement about the arrest did not mention the earlier stabbing. Police previously said they weren’t "jumping to conclusions" that the attacks were perpetrated by the same suspect, but noted more video and witness accounts would help investigators positively identify the perpetrator in both cases.
